REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Team Leader

POSITION: Responsible for the 2nd shift day-to-day operation of Environmental Services Department, working with supervision to prioritize and trouble shoot tasks as situations arise.

SUPERVISES: Second shift housekeeping staff

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of housekeeping/laundry chemicals and equipment preferred.
  • Long-term care background preferred.
  • Completion of or willingness to complete 330 hour International Executive Housekeepers Association Self-Study Program.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Must be able to perform simple calculations.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills with staff, residents and the public.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relations with staff and residents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Common Space Cleaning

  • Vacuum all areas as scheduled.
  • Spot clean and shampoo carpet as needed.
  • Dust all furniture, pictures, lighting, hand rails, etc.
  • Clean dining rooms, including tables and chairs.
  • Check and clean public restrooms often.
  • Clean bathing rooms.
  • Clean office, chapel, activities, nurses’ station, etc.
  • Check dates and clean refrigerators.
  • Take out trash as required.
  • Follow procedures for biohazard, infectious waste disposal.
  • Clean windows and blinds.
  • Complete and turn in checklist.
  • Make good use of time.

Laundry

  • Clean laundry according to trained procedures (sort, pre-treat, wash, dry, iron, fold).
  • Deliver resident clothing and linens timely, neatly and accurately.
  • Label resident clothing, fill out inventory sheet and log it.
  • Log missing clothing and look for it.
  • Maintain a clean area and equipment.
  • Make good use of time.

Resident Room Cleaning

  • Vacuum room.
  • Spot clean and shampoo carpet as needed.
  • Wash walls as needed.
  • Dust furniture, TV, light fixtures and resident belongings.
  • Clean windows and blinds.
  • Clean bathroom completely.
  • Strip and wash bed mattress and frame.
  • Take trash out as required.
  • Make beds when asked.
  • Clean resident drawers.
  • Check dates in refrigerators.
  • Have room completely ready for new admission.
  • Complete and turn in checklist.
  • Make good use of time.

Nutrition Services

  • Supervision of dining.
  • Passing meal trays.
  • Intake records of resident meal consumption.
  • Make good use of time.

Equipment Care

  • Keep carts organized and cleaned.
  • Place equipment in storage area when not in use.
  • Chemicals should be locked up or stored in a safe manner.
  • Equipment used properly and with care.
  • Equipment kept clean.

Administrative

  • Interpret department policy and procedures, and advise personnel, residents, visitors, family members, etc. as necessary.*
  • Assure that all Environmental Services procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.*

Regulatory

  • Meets State and Federal regulatory requirements related to environmental services.*
  • Assists in maintaining deficiency free outcome from Department of Inspections and Appeals survey.*

Human Resources

  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.*
  • Assists in the recording of absenteeism and tardiness according to established policy and procedures.
  • Report complaints and grievances that they were not able to resolve to the team leader.*

Safety and Sanitation

  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency policies and procedures.*
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner ensuring that safety regulations are followed at all times by all staff. *

Customer Service

  • Interacts with residents, families, staff, and other visitors to the center in a pleasant, respectful, and courteous manner.*
  • Acts as a positive representative of the facility at all times.
  • Performs incidental housekeeping and maintenance tasks as may arise during the course of regular duties, in order to maintain a clean, safe, pleasant environment for residents, visitors and staff.
  • Responds to any and all call lights within 5 minutes.

Professional Duties

  • Represents Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and the Environmental Services Department in a professional manner within the community.*
  • Accepts the responsibility of defining and meeting continuing education requirements.*

Residents/Patients’ Rights

  • Provides privacy and maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information. *
  • Ensures care and security of residents’ personal possessions.
  • Reports all complaints and grievance made by residents, family members, and visitors to the supervisor.
  • Ensures that residents are free from abuse (physical, mental, and sexual), mistreatment and neglect, and reports any such instances to appropriate facility staff. *

In-Service Education

  • Attends all in-service education programs mandated by federal, state, and company guidelines.*
  • Participates and assists in departmental meetings and projects as assigned.
  • Accepts the responsibility of defining and meeting continuing education requirements.

Miscellaneous

  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Bartels at Home – Housekeeper
