Megan Cerwinske, a Bartels employee, was recently awarded tuition assistance through the Diercks Memorial Healthcare scholarship fund. She is currently an RN and first floor supervisor at Bartels and is pursuing her MSN Leadership at Allen College, Waterloo.

“I have always worked in geriatrics and enjoy getting to come in and see the same people every day. The relationships with the residents at Bartels is the biggest motivator to come to work every day,” commented Cerwinske. “My current course of study will help me to grow as a leader and learn leadership and management skills that will help me as a nurse manager.”

The scholarship endowment in the Bartels Memorial Foundation was established in 1992 by Dan Diercks in honor of his parents, W.H. “Shorty” and Elda Diercks. They were long-time Waverly residents who resided at Bartels before their deaths. Dan recently passed away in Santa Rosa, Calif., but his legacy and his parents’ legacy lives on through his generous donations and establishment of this endowment. Dan always expressed his gratitude to the staff at Bartels for the care and love provided to his parents. The endowment was his way of giving back and provides scholarships and loan assistance to Bartels staff who are pursuing healthcare careers.
