Exciting News!! Bartels has been named a finalist for the 2024 Healthiest State Annual Awards for our employee wellness program! We are in the top three in the state in the medium-sized workplace category.

Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, strives to promote a healthy workplace and encourages its employees to live healthy. Wellness at Bartels highlights not only physical wellness, but also mental, financial, community and culture wellness.

Bartels holds monthly wellness challenges including walking challenges, healthy eating bingo, and much more. Every Wednesday is Wellness Wednesday with healthy snacks and health information provided to staff. Employees have the opportunity to take a Mental Health First Aid course, enjoy stress relieving activities like animal therapy, meditation and even learning about Seasonal Affective Disorder. The Wellness Committee at Bartels is continually looking for ways to engage the employees through fun activities and challenges.

Bartels has experienced many benefits of wellness in the workplace including improved employee physical and mental wellness, lessening of burnout, improving the culture, engagement of staff and increasing positive attitudes and communication. It has also assisted with improving interaction between departments, creates non-work connections between staff members and employees giving back to the community.

“The exemplary efforts and devoted commitment of this year’s finalists toward promoting the well-being of their fellow Iowans provide an outstanding model to aim for,” stated Jami Haberl, Healthiest State Initiative executive director. “We take pride in showcasing their endeavors aimed at ensuring every Iowan has the opportunity to live their healthiest life.”

Workplaces, individuals, youth, schools, early care sites and health care providers will be recognized for their efforts to improve the physical, social, and mental well-being of Iowans.

Winners of the Workplace, Youth Power, and Individual categories will be announced at the 2024 Workplace Well-being Conference on April 17. Each winner will be awarded a monetary gift to continue their efforts.
