Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community was founded upon the spirit of giving with a 1954 bequest from Anna Bartels, the widow of a Lutheran pastor. For more than half a century, Bartels has been meeting the long-term care needs of senior adults in a comfortable home-like setting. Though primarily funded by resident fees, Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community depends on additional funding to enhance the quality of life for our residents and help us continue to meet our mission of enriching lives through quality services and Christian care.
Anna’s dream is flourishing, and through the visions of exceptional leadership, Bartels has stretched to meet the changing needs and demands of senior adults and their families. Today, Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community has evolved from a “home for the aged” to a multilevel retirement community, offering a full range of health care and retirement living services on one campus. Our chaplaincy program is at the core of the Bartels’ mission. Caring for the physical needs of the residents is in tandem with caring for their spiritual and emotional needs.
The future will bring more exciting changes. We are helping to change attitudes towards retirement communities by creating a community within a community. By offering a continuum of care – from a totally independent lifestyle to end-of-life care, we meet the needs of our community members. We invite you to join us by creating a legacy through which you will make a difference in the lives of our residents.
Friends for Today
Bartels’ Annual Fund Campaign helps us meet the immediate funding needs of our creative therapy programs (horticulture, music and art therapy), our activities, chaplaincy, transportation programs, and some capital needs. Bartels is committed to providing the same level of care to all residents regardless of their financial ability. Our donors provide the generous charitable support that makes the difference, setting Bartels apart from other facilities that provide only basic care and senior housing.
- The 1954 Society is comprised of individuals, families, businesses and organizations that contribute $250 or more annually so residents may continue to receive all of the benefits Bartels has to offer. You are invited to become a member of the 1954 Society at any level. Your gift may be contributed at one time, or spread over the course of a calendar year.
- Anna Bartels Society donors make a difference by contributing $1000 or more annually to Bartels. In return, Anna Bartels Society members receive the satisfaction that their contribution has immediately gone to work in the lives of Bartels residents. You are invited to become an Anna Bartels Society member at any level. Your gift may be contributed at one time, or spread over the course of a calendar year.
Friends for the future
The Friends for the Future is composed of individuals who have chosen to support Bartels through an endowment gift. Planned gifts assure the future of our mission. We are grateful for each gift, and know how important it is to our donors to respect their wishes and assure that every donation made will be used to support the needs of Bartels friends and neighbors. Direction for planned gifts may be considered for the following:
- The Bartels Memorial Foundation: Established in 1984, the endowment fund strengthens Bartels with funds to meet needs of today’s residents and to assure care for residents in the future.
- The Bartels Chaplaincy Endowment Fund: Established in 1997, this fund supports Bartels’ Christian mission and commitment to serving the spiritual needs of its residents and assures the presence of full-time Chaplaincy services at Bartels in the future. A financial gift to the Chaplaincy Endowment, allows you leave a part of yourself, your values, and your Christian heritage to future generations.
Grateful Residents & Families Program
We invite you to make a donation in honor of the Bartels nurse, housekeeper, maintenance worker or other staff member who made a difference in your visit or stay. When you share a gift in appreciation of an outstanding Bartels team member, they will be notified of the charitable gift made in their honor, recognized publicly and given a lapel pin to wear proudly.
