Whether here for a few weeks of rehabilitation or for long-term nursing care, residents and patients of Woodland Terrace are shown respect for privacy and given personal attention to help them feel at home.
The Woodland Terrace Nursing Center is a welcoming, comfortable home designed for dignified living with supportive health care services. We offer flexible services and activities to help residents live at their highest level of ability with a lifestyle that focuses on personal preferences and choices.
The care team focuses on maintaining and improving residents’ health so they can achieve their highest level of functioning. Licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants provide 24-hour care according to physicians’ orders. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services are provided on-site. Palliative care and hospice services are also available to manage pain and bring comfort at the end stage of life.
Woodland Terrace Features
All Woodland Terrace residents benefit from a full schedule of activities designed to keep their minds, bodies and spirits energized. Our expressive therapies— art, music, pet and horticultural activities—tap into individual creativity as a source of healing and growth. Other activities—such as exercise groups, reminiscing, games, community outings and special celebrations—help residents stay connected to family, community and the good things in life they have always enjoyed.
Our Chaplaincy Program supports residents’ spiritual needs and faith through worship services, Bible study groups, devotions, sacraments and personal visits. Our chaplain ministers to all residents—of all faiths—in partnership with their home pastors and congregations.
Our other support services—dining services, social services, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, transportation and volunteers—bring special touches to residents’ rooms and take care of the behind-the-scene details that help make each resident’s stay at Woodland Terrace feel as much like home as possible.

The Social Services Department assists residents in making the transition to their new home at Bartels. The social worker seeks resident and family input and works with other members of the health care team to develop a comprehensive plan of care for each resident, with measurable goals and treatments.
Laundry services are available seven days a week. A laundry bag and identification card is provided for your convenience. We do ask that you not bring in clothes that need to be dry cleaned or hand washed.
Dry Cleaning Service
A drop-off/pick-up site for dry cleaning is available by the Eichhorn Haus lobby. Deliveries and pick ups are made Mondays and Thursdays. Instructions are posted. This service is at the resident’s expense.
Bartels has a wheelchair-accessible bus and a mini-van to take residents on scheduled outings and to medical appointments. To avoid scheduling conflicts, please consult with the scheduling coordinator before making any appointments.
Full beauty shop and barber services are available at two locations to serve Bartels residents. Nursing staff can assist you in making an appointment. Gift certificates can be purchased at the Bartels front desk or at the beauty shop. The resident is responsible for payment.
Residents may subscribe to any newspaper, at their own expense. As a convenience to you, the three area papers listed in this section can be delivered directly to your door. You can subscribe to these newspapers; Waverly Democrat, Waterloo Courier or the Des Moines Register.
We offer admissions seven days a week and assist with determining eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid or other insurance coverage.
Admission to Woodland Terrace is based on a physician’s order and pre-assessment by our nurse representative of the individual’s medical history and current physical and mental condition. The assessment is free of charge and is the basis for developing a care plan and setting goals.
