Brenda’s Retiring

Deb Schroeder, President and CEO, recently announced the retirement of Brenda Schmadeke, Health Services Manager for Woodland Terrace, 2nd Floor of Bartels Independent Living Community. Schmadeke, with deep roots in Butler County and Waverly, earned her R.N. from NIACC in Mason City. Her forty-five years in the nursing profession focused on geriatrics, and for the past 23 years at Bartels.  “I’ve seen so many changes through the years, but I’m proud that Bartels has and continues to deliver on their mission through facility renovations and improvements and their focus on the resident first philosophy.” stated Schmadeke. “The challenge is to find a balance between meeting the personal health needs of each resident and allowing them individual choices while, at the same time, staying within required regulations. One of the greatest privileges is to be there for the resident and their families in the last stages of life. Death only happens once and the families will forever remember the last moments of life. We want to extend the same courtesies at Bartels as we would in our own homes.” Schmadeke’s bucket list includes more family time, completing home projects, traveling and giving back to the community.  “We were delighted to honor Brenda with a retirement reception on March 31st,” says Schroeder. “We are indeed fortunate to have had the privilege of sharing Brenda’s expertise, work ethic and commitment.”
